The Estancia Ranchettes is located about 33 miles east of Albuquerque and six miles east of the town of Moriarty. It is easy to locate just east of the town of Moriarty off of Interstate 40 which runs through the subdivision. It is a large subdivision with a few residents sprinkled about, but for the most part remains undeveloped. There are stunning sunsets of the Sandia Mountains to the West! Sandia is Spanish for watermelon and represents the beautiful reddish colors of the sunsets over the mountains. The subdivision is gentle rolling hills with scattered sagebrush, native plants, and grasses. There were cows and horses roaming about and a few baby calves and horses made my day!
Hacienda is an excellent gravel road at the end of the block to the west. There was an overgrown dirt road leading along the south of lots 31 & 32 and I imagine the road leading under lot 29 to be the same. There were several cows and horses who came to check out what we were doing there - they seemed friendly enough.
It is a pretty area with great views of the long range of the Sandia Mountains from the southwest to the northwest and there is great detail in her peaks! There was magnificent views of treed hill sides that slope down to this valley from the NE to the SE. Also there was a very cool hill to the NE as well. The interstate can be seen in the distance to the north. Moriarty and Edgewood are across the valley in the distance to the west and northwest. Enjoy! Char the Explorer : )
