In fact, Tularosa was named by American Cowboy magazine as one of the "20 Best Places to Live the West".

Tularosa is just 12 miles from the city of Alamogordo, the county seat and host to many county, state and Federal government offices, as well as Holloman Air Force Base. Medical care is provided by the Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center as well as a number of clinics and primary care facilities. White Sands Missile Range and White Sands National Monument are just a few minutes drive west of the town. Alamogordo also has a jet-capable airport (ALM) and currently is served by daily commuter flight connections to Albuquerque. The nearest international airport is El Paso, TX (ELP) just 90 miles south of Alamogordo, with most major carriers providing multiple daily flights to Dallas, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Chicago, etc.
