Calm Your Mind and Find Your Freedom. RavenWind is a private, secluded, serene home and retreat on 80 acres overlooking Bluewater Canyon in the pine forest of the New Mexico Rocky Mountains. RavenWind is a naturally beautiful place where you can relax under a New Mexico sky, hear the wind, search a night sky filled with billions of stars, listen to the elk bugle, and meet and enjoy the friendly mountain folk. It's quiet, private, and remote.
The main lodge at RavenWind is a 3,600 square foot two-story structure designed by a Seattle architect. Each floor can be used as a fully self-contained private residence. Upstairs comprises a master suite, a large open living and dining room, the main kitchen and a large utility room. A huge deck with hot tub wraps around the upper level. Downstairs there's a living room and kitchen, plus two bedrooms, each with private bath, an exercise room and an office. French doors lead from the living room to the covered porch and canyon views.
The lodge is designed as a passive solar structure. The lower level, being built into the mountainside, stays at a constant and pleasant temperature year-round. The upper level has refrigerated air conditioning, but it's never needed. The lodge has in-floor radiant heat throughout, and almost every room has its own thermostat. The fireplace is a radiant heater designed in eastern Europe; it will heat the entire top floor of the main house in winter.
Set a short walk away from the main lodge is a 1,260 square foot guest house. It's a self-contained unit, with two roomy bedrooms and two full baths. The guest house can easily accommodate 6 persons, and has a fully-equipped kitchen plus a laundry room with washer and dryer. Guests will enjoy the cool mountain breezes and views of pine covered mountains from the large covered deck.
RavenWind's water system is designed to continue to function even with the loss of electric power. Water is pumped to a 6,000 gallon storage tank on the highest point on the property. Both houses can get water either from this storage by gravity feed, or from the well by pressure tank. The barn has a rain water catchment system suitable for irrigation or livestock watering.
RavenWind's 80 acres are located adjacent to the Lincoln National Forest where you can hike, ride and hunt on hundreds of thousands of acres of public land. All of RavenWind's acreage has been thinned, except for a small 5-acre portion across the highway. This is one of the finest mountain properties available and the recreation potential is unlimited.
RavenWind was operated as a successful B&B for about 8 years, offering 4 and 7 day all-inclusive retreats. The current owners no longer operate the B&B, but the potential is there to re-start the business.
RavenWind is located approximately 7 miles south-east of Weed, NM, a tiny crossroads community with a post office, gas station and restaurant. Weed is the home of the nationally-famous "Weed Bluegrass Festival" held annually in July. About 35 miles from RavenWind is the tourist resort village of Cloudcroft, set at 9,000' elevation in the Sacramento Mountains. The nearest large town is Alamogordo, about 54 miles west. Alamogordo is the county seat, and has a regional medical center, a jet-capable municipal airport (ALM), a large grocery store, a Super WalMart, and lots of motels and restaurants. An uncontrolled airport is available at Timberon, NM (52NM), in the mountains about 55 miles south-west. The nearest international airport is at El Paso, TX (ELP) about 144 miles south.
