Lands of America recently had $824 million in farms, ranches and other land for sale for sale in the Land of Enchantment. This represents 1.1 million acres of New Mexico land for sale (accounting for roughly one percent of land in the state). The most expensive land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $35 million, although the median price for land for sale in New Mexico came in at $256,538. The average price of land, homesites and other rural acreage for sale in New Mexico was $638,395. There was 3,157 acres of sold land in New Mexico recorded in May 2018 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a 15 percent increase in sales activity over the previous month. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $6.3 million. The Bureau of Land Management oversees most outdoor recreation on over 13 million acres of New Mexico land. Popular activities include hunting, fishing, horseback riding and OHVing (indeed, an all-terrain vehicle is a necessity in many areas given the tough and rugged terrain). As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in New Mexico. Of New Mexico's 33 counties, Rio Arriba County had the most rural property and land for sale. New Mexico is the fifth-biggest state in the United States, covering an area of 121,598 square miles (78 million acres). In total, 121,298 square miles (100 percent) is land, while the remaining 292 square miles is covered by water.
