Recent data from Lands of America shows about $956 million in land and other rural acreage for sale in New Mexico. This represents more than 1 million acres of New Mexico land for sale (accounting for about one percent of the state's land). Of the 33 counties in the state, Lincoln County had the most land for sale. The most expensive property listed for sale in New Mexico on Lands of America recently was $35 million, while the average price of land and other rural acreage for sale in New Mexico was $803,806. There were 1,552 acres of sold land in New Mexico recorded in October 2018 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects a 21 percent decrease in sales activity over the previous month. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $6 million. Lincoln County had the most land sales recently in the state. The Bureau of Land Management oversees most outdoor recreation on over 13 million acres of New Mexico land. Popular activities include hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and OHVing (indeed, an all-terrain vehicle is a necessity in many areas given the tough, rugged terrain). With numerous opportunities to hunt species including mule deer, elk, turkey, bear, and dove, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in New Mexico.
