Luna County is a county in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of the 2010 census, there were 25,095 people, 9,593 households, and 6,484 families residing in the county. The population density was 8.5 inhabitants per square mile (3.3/km2). There were 10,999 housing units at an average density of 3.7 per square mile (1.4/km2). Of the 9,593 households, 34.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.6% were married couples living together, 14.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 32.4% were non-families, and 27.8% of all households were made up of individuals. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.13. The median age was 39.5 years. The median income for a household in the county was $27,997 and the median income for a family was $33,312. Males had a median income of $31,905 versus $19,865 for females. The per capita income for the county was $15,687.

Deming is located in Luna County, NM, on the southwest border of the United States and is located in a high desert. To the southeast of Deming, you can see the Florida Mountain Range, and on the way to the town of Columbus, you can spot the Tres Hermanas (Three Sisters) Mountains. Columbus is located about half an hour south of Deming, along the border with Mexico. The entire region is filled with wildlife, flowers, desert plants, incredible rocks and minerals, and the cowboy way of life that has existed here for over a century.

Life here takes place in an area rich in history. There are the talented Mimbres and Mogollon Indian cultures, the Butterfield Stage Pony Express, the open range of the cowboys, Pancho Villas invasion over the border of Mexico into Columbus, and other historical events that took place in the area. Deming is also home to the silver spike driven in 1881 that joined the Second Transcontinental Railroad, and still plays an important role in commercial and passenger rail travel.

The sun shines almost every day in Luna County. The temperatures are mild-to-hot in the summer and cold a few days in the winter. And when the mercury rises, it is typically a dry heat accompanied by a cooling breeze. Nearby is the City of Rocks State Park, with volcanic rock formations, and Rockhound State Park, offering mineral and rock collecting. The Great American Duck Race is held every year on the third weekend of August. It features wet and dry duck race tracks, a hot air balloon show, a Tournament of Ducks Parade, a carnival, and a variety of vendors setting up their wares in the Courthouse Square and surrounding area.

Deming has two wineries. St. Clair Winery is New Mexico's largest winery. The Luna Rossa Winery is a local estate winery that produces all of its wines with varieties grown on their own vineyards.
